Kanchanpur: A herd of wild elephants has entered some settlements in the northern region of Belauri Municipality of Kanchanpur.
A herd of elephants has entered the human settlement around Gorakhnath Community Forest in Belauri Municipality-9. The herd of elephants has reached the settlements around Ramghat Community Forest and Singhpal Community Forest by Wednesday morning, said Dinesh Kumar Yadav, Chief of Kunda Sub-Division Forest Office, Pachkadiya.
“Around 15 to 20 wild elephants have damaged crops planted by farmers,” he said. At around 6 pm on Tuesday, a group of wild elephants tried to attack the 12 workers who were returning home after working, but the workers managed to escape and save their lives, ‘he said. The general public has been requested to be vigilant as wild elephants have entered the human settlements.
Officials from the Forest Administration, Nepal Police, and community forest officials have been active in preventing further damage. According to Kamal Kumar Khadka, Inspector at the Area Police Office, Belauri, a team of police has been deployed from the Area Police Office, Belauri and its subordinates since Tuesday evening.
