A boat carrying tourists in Kerala, India met with an accident near the Thiruvallam coast in the Kollam district, resulting in the death of 21 people. The boat was carrying 40 passengers at the time of the incident, including many children who lost their lives.
The accident occurred when the boat was approaching the shore near Thoppumpady. The Minister of Kerala, V. Abdurahman, confirmed that 21 bodies were recovered from the site of the accident, and some of the passengers who survived were on holiday.
Search and rescue operations have been ongoing at the site of the accident since the morning, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan have expressed grief over the incident. The government has also announced compensation of two lakh rupees for the families of the deceased.
The Chief Minister has canceled all scheduled programs and will visit the site of the accident this morning.
