Afghanistan: Three young women working for a television station have been shot dead in the Afghan city of Jalalabad. According to international media reports, 18 to 20 year-olds died in two separate incidents. The condition of another person injured in the shooting is critical.
Journalists, rights activists, and politicians have recently come under attack in Afghanistan. Afghan police have arrested a man involved in the incident. Police say he has links to the Taliban. However, the Taliban has denied any involvement in the incident.
The girls who were killed in the attack had just graduated from high school and were working in the dubbing department at Enikass TV station. According to the international news agency AP, they were attacked on the way home from work.
Police are searching for other people involved in the attack. Violent attacks in Afghanistan have risen sharply since the US signed a peace deal with the Taliban a year ago. Earlier in December, according to Enikass TV, a woman working for the television station was also killed in December. The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack.
