The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has decided to grant citizenship to prominent foreign nationals.
The UAE government made the announcement after thousands of foreigners fled the UAE due to the epidemic of corona infection and falling oil prices.
UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has said that UAE citizenship will be given to talented people including investors, doctors, engineers and artists. According to him, foreigners and their family members can hold dual citizenship.
The aim is to attract people who can contribute to the UAE’s development journey, said Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.
According to a newspaper published from Abu Dhabi, “The National”, the new arrangement will benefit foreign nationals who specialize in certain fields.
You do not need to apply for UAE citizenship separately. The UAE’s royal family and government officials will prepare a list to grant citizenship to any foreign national. The BBC reports that the final decision on whether to approve the list will be made by the Council of Ministers.
